Lead Carpenter

Tectonic Design + Build Role Description


Our Lead Carpenter possesses expert-level experience in the field of residential construction. They are responsible for analyzing schematics and blueprints, following clients’ specifications, developing the project’s scope of work, and leading and directing the Carpenter team in full execution, ensuring the highest quality work product and client satisfaction.

The pay range for a Lead Carpenter is $40-50 per hour, commensurate with experience. 

Directly reports to / supervised by: CEO / Project Manager


  • Oversee residential construction projects from beginning to end
    • Independently execute interior and exterior carpentry from framing to finish, including but not limited to: 
      • Demolition
      • Framing 
      • Installing windows & doors
      • Installing wood and cement-based exterior siding and trim
      • Installing engineered hardwood flooring, LVP
      • Installing interior trim packages, including interior doors, baseboard, casing, crown molding, closet packages, etc.
      • Installing cabinetry packages, including kitchen, bathrooms, custom built-ins 
    • Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand & develop scope of work
    • In collaboration with the Project Manager, develop and direct the overall and week-by-week production schedules 
    • Manage jobsite, including but not limited to:
      • Navigate jobsite challenges and create solutions
      • Maintain clean and tidy jobsites; trailer / tool organization
      • Ensure daily and weekly job logs are complete and satisfactory
      • Ensure compliance with safety regulations
      • Ensure craftsmanship of Carpentry team meets Tectonic Standard of Quality
  • Lead the Carpenter Team (Apprentices, Carpenter Levels 1 & 2)
    • Includes performance evaluations and mapping out improvement plans, when necessary
    • Lead weekly meetings to ascertain updates from staff & delegate weekly scope of work
    • Train, mentor, and supervise Apprentices and Carpenter Levels 1 & 2
    • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of additional Carpenter staff, as needed


Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years carpentry  experience
  • 2+ years Lead Carpenter experience; proven track record of leading a team and managing a production schedule
  • Understanding of carpentry techniques, methods of installation, and construction systems
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and hand tools such as: Table saw, Miter saw, Track saw, Planer, Router
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints 
  • Demonstrate safe working habits and knowledge of safety rules and instructions while performing job functions
  • Advanced construction math competency
  • Meticulous and methodical in approach to production
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Technologically literate, including but not limited to:
    • Familiarity with Google Suite: Gmail, Cal, Drive, Docs, Chat
    • Familiarity with CoConstruct

The Carpenter Level 1 role is crucial to the success of each Tectonic project. They will assist the Carpenter team in executing the fundamental components of on-site carpentry that reflect the Tectonic standard of quality.


Carpenter Level 2

The Carpenter Level 2 role is the lynch-pin of the Carpentry team and the Tectonic brand. They have a comprehensive carpentry skill set necessary to execute a project from start to finish while mentoring those still growing.


Lead Carpenter

Our Lead Carpenter possesses expert-level experience in the field of residential construction. They are responsible for analyzing schematics and blueprints, following clients’ specifications, developing the scope of work.


Project Manager

The Project Manager provides construction insight to the Design team in finalizing project details, then autonomously runs production with the Field team, ensuring the project is completed within budget, on schedule, and meeting Tectonic’s standard of quality as well as the Owner’s expectations.
