Our MISSION
Tectonic Design + Build is a residential construction company in Boulder, Colorado, that specializes in custom home remodeling and building high-performance, healthy homes. We believe your home should be beautifully designed and built with intention + deliver good air quality and energy performance for you and your loved ones.
Our Story
Tectonic Design Build was founded in 2019 with a focus on environmental stewardship, shifting the relationship between home and environment. At Tectonic, we rethink how we build and why we build. Like our namesake, our mission is to shift.
As a seasoned General Contractor and carpenter, our Founder, Dylan, saw an opportunity to build better. Building code falls short in addressing efficiency, quality, and longevity of the home, and he felt far more could be done for homeowners (and the planet).
That’s when Dylan discovered Passive House. Often lauded as the highest standard of energy efficient building, passive house techniques improve the air tightness of a home, leading to an overall improved quality of life (healthy homes, as we like to call them). Dylan and the rest of our Field Team are all Passive Certified builders.
Another critical layer of the Tectonic Way is systems. Mystified at the horror stories we’ve heard from clients working with other firms or general contractors – not being informed of the status of their project, just to be surprised with overblown budgets and schedules – we knew we had to do better by our clients.
The Tectonic Design Build process is the backbone of everything we do. We develop and manage your project from concept to construction, meaning we know it and you better than anyone. We’ve created a systemized, streamlined approach so you know exactly what is happening with your investment and you are in control every step of the way.
As a younger firm, we stand apart in our excitement to modernize the construction industry. We work across cutting-edge design and building software programs meant to improve efficiencies in our operations and across our projects. And we stay informed of trends, bringing you high-quality, trendy, yet timeless designs.

In 2021, Tectonic became a family-owned business, now run by husband and wife team, Dylan and Kelsie. We have poured every piece of ourselves into this company because we believe in the WHY of what we do and WHO we do it for.
Dylan is an expert at project estimating and management, as well as a complete building science nerd. Kelsie takes the operations wheel, geeking out on systems that improve efficiencies, thus saving our clients time and money. We touch every project and develop relationships with every client.
